ProLIGHTmed took part proudly in the 3rd Green Living Areas Mission Gathering, held in Athens on 22 and 23 April 2026.
The event brought together thematic projects, governance actors, municipalities, technical experts, policy-makers and stakeholders from across the Euro-MED region, with the aim of accelerating the transfer and mainstreaming of tested solutions for greener and more sustainable public services.
Organized under the Green Living Areas Mission of the Interreg Euro-MED Programme, the Gathering provided an important platform to showcase project outputs, exchange technical knowledge and strengthen cooperation among initiatives working on sustainable territorial development.
ProLIGHTmed was represented by the Lead Partner, the Municipality of Tuzi, and project partners the Municipality of Akamas and the Renewable and Sustainable Energy Systems Lab of the University of Crete, who together contributed to the discussion by sharing experiences, technical insights and lessons learned from the project’s pilot activities.
During the two-day programme, participants took part in project showcases, technical demonstrations, working groups and capacity-building sessions. The agenda focused on identifying synergies among projects, exploring joint transfer opportunities, connecting innovation with policy frameworks, and discussing long-term governance and financing models to scale up sustainable solutions.
ProLIGHTmed highlighted the benefits of LED public lighting upgrades, digital monitoring systems and proactive asset management based on the COMPOSE methodology, which integrates technical, socio-economic and environmental data. This approach supports municipalities in building stronger investment cases for green public services and in moving from reactive maintenance towards more strategic and data-driven management of public assets.

The event also confirmed the transferability of ProLIGHTmed solutions across different pilot areas, including street lighting interventions in Tuzi, Kaštela and Lezhë, as well as parking infrastructure in Akamas. These examples demonstrate how municipalities can reduce energy consumption, lower CO₂ emissions and improve the efficiency and quality of public lighting systems.
A key message emerged clearly from the Gathering: combining efficient infrastructure, smart digital tools, staff training and cross-border cooperation is essential to ensure the long-term governance, financing and replication of sustainable public lighting solutions across the Mediterranean.
Through its participation in the 3rd Green Living Areas Mission Gathering, ProLIGHTmed reaffirmed its commitment to supporting local authorities in the transition towards more energy-efficient, sustainable and resilient public spaces.
