24/12/2024

On December 16, 2024, the local workshop organized by the National Energy Technology District – DiTNE brought together policymakers, experts, and local stakeholders to discuss pivotal themes in energy transition. The event highlighted sustainable public administration practices, innovative solutions for energy efficiency, and opportunities for local governments to enhance their ecological footprint.

Spotlight on ProLIGHTmed

Mrs. Katia Chiriatti, Project Manager of ProLIGHTmed, opened the session with an in-depth overview of the project’s objectives. As a partner of the initiative, DiTNE has been instrumental in promoting greener public lighting systems across the Euro-Mediterranean area.

Key discussions

One of the focal points of the workshop was the new Regional Energy and Environmental Plan (PEAR) of Puglia region, presented by Mr. Francesco Corvace, Head of the Energy Transition Section at the Puglia Region. The PEAR outlines strategic goals for energy efficiency, renewable energy development, and CO₂ reduction, with an emphasis on the creation of Renewable Energy Communities (RECs). Mr. Cosimo Casilli, Administrator of A.R.C.A. Nord Salento, and Mrs. Gelsomina Macchitella from the Municipality of Brindisi emphasized the significance of energy-efficient solutions in public buildings and residential areas. Both highlighted the need for public awareness campaigns to encourage citizens to adopt sustainable practices. Mr. Vittorio Rina, President of the Brindisi Industrial Consortium (ASI), explored the role of industrial zones in facilitating the energy transition, while Mr. Cosimo Pescatore, President of the Brindisi Engineers’ Association, shed light on the contributions of engineering professionals in energy planning and implementation.

Interactive sessions and collaboration

The workshop’s interactive format encouraged participants to share best practices, discuss funding opportunities for municipalities, and explore the broader implications of EU cohesion policies on local energy strategies. Mr. Franco Gentile, Vice President of the Brindisi-Taranto Chamber of Commerce, underscored the importance of collaboration among local entities to build sustainable communities.

The insights and reflections gathered during the event were fundamental and have been carefully documented by DiTNE. These will be shared with project partners to further enrich the collective knowledge base and enhance collaborative efforts within the ProLIGHTmed initiative.
