On July 15, 2025, the City Hall of Kaštel Sućurac hosted the second stakeholder workshop and a promotional event highlighting best practices in energy-efficient public lighting, as part of the ProLIGHTmed project. A media conference was also held to raise awareness about the project’s impact and future steps.
“The City of Kaštela is a partner in the ProLIGHTmed project, which focuses on the green optimization of public lighting. The project spans three years and we are currently halfway through. The pilot area covers our coastal zone, where outdated lighting systems will be modernized. Today, we presented the current state analysis and the next steps planned for the reconstruction” said Mili Jerčić, EU Funds Advisor for the City of Kaštela.
The technical assessment and implementation plan were presented by Marko Bešlić from the company Lunes Adria:
“I am responsible for surveying and analyzing the current infrastructure, proposing energy efficiency improvements, and drafting the technical documentation needed for the main reconstruction project.”
The analysis revealed that much of the existing public lighting infrastructure in Kaštela is outdated and environmentally harmful. Notably, 77% of lighting fixtures use mercury-containing light sources, and 41.5% are spherical fixtures contributing to light pollution.
To address these issues, the city has planned a comprehensive overhaul:

638 old fixtures will be replaced by 524 modern LED units;

New poles and brackets will be installed;

An advanced smart lighting control system will be implemented, enabling remote control, lighting regulation based on traffic and consumption, fault detection, and energy performance monitoring.
Through this strategic transformation, Kaštela is not only modernizing its infrastructure, but also actively contributing to Europe’s transition toward energy-efficient and smart cities.
