In a significant step towards modernizing and optimizing public lighting infrastructure, representatives from the Municipality of Tuzi, Montenegro, and the Municipality of Lezhe, Albania, participated in an intensive training session on the Public Lighting Registration Tool, held in Tuzi, on January 30, 2025. The session, conducted by a technical expert from the Portuguese project partner ENA, was not an official activity of the ProLIGHTmed project but rather an independent initiative that underscored the collaboration between these two municipalities in advancing public lighting management, extending beyond their cooperation within the project framework.
The Public Lighting Registration Tool
The GIS tool is an innovative digital solution designed to support municipalities in effectively managing their public lighting assets. It enables accurate data collection, allowing cities to register, update, and monitor lighting infrastructure efficiently. With integrated measurement features, the tool helps assess light intensity and road width, ensuring optimal lighting distribution and energy efficiency. Additionally, its digital data transfer and analysis capabilities facilitate better decision-making and resource planning, contributing to smarter, more sustainable urban lighting systems.
The training
Participants learned how to systematically register and update public lighting assets, ensuring a comprehensive and up-to-date database. The training also covered methods to measure light intensity and road dimensions, critical for optimizing lighting placement and performance. Lastly, attendees were introduced to digital tools that facilitate seamless data transfer and analytical processing, enabling smarter planning and real-time monitoring. By adopting the GIS tool the municipalities of Tuzi and Lezhe are taking concrete steps towards energy-efficient and smart urban lighting solutions. This initiative will not only improve operational efficiency but also contribute to achieving sustainability goals by reducing energy consumption and enhancing public safety.
Municipalities of Tuzi and Lezhe, along with all the ProLIGHTmed project partners, remain committed to supporting local authorities with innovative solutions and technical capacity-building initiatives to foster sustainable and well-managed public infrastructure.
